Checkpoint strength
The authority a trace deserves given provenance, independent convergence, contestability, route of appeal, and fit with the consequence it is asked to carry.

Checkpoint
A trace, event, state, measurement, witness, or procedure sufficiently stabilized by verification to constrain later interpretation. Checkpoint strength is scalar, not binary. Meaning may move between checkpoints, but later interpretations remain answerable to them.

An occurrence or state of affairs that is not exhausted by any one person's experience of it. An event can remain partly unknown while still constraining what honest accounts may claim.
