What kind of theory is STAR?
STAR brings established research into one map of how a moment becomes the world you live through. It is a serious proposal, not a completed science, diagnosis, treatment, or final answer about consciousness.
The honest claim
Less than a cosmology. More than a metaphor.
STAR says that what is happening now meets what your mind and body can notice, what your past makes available, and what you are already trying to understand. A lived world forms, you act, and that action changes what comes next. The theory matters only if this map helps people ask better questions and stay answerable to reality.
Five levels of standing
Confident paragraphs should not borrow one another’s authority.
Established finding
We have strong evidence for this.Supported by a mature research body or authoritative public record. These claims do not depend on STAR being accepted.
Integrative synthesis

Interpretive extension
This is a reasoned possibility worth testing.A reasoned application of the architecture that should generate comparison and questions, not borrow laboratory certainty.

Speculation
This is an open question, not a finding.Questions beyond this book’s grounded framework. They are not presented here as findings or as part of STAR’s current standing.
Objections kept in the room
The theory includes the strongest reasons to distrust it.
The strongest future work would be comparative. Can the Query Stack be measured distinctly from general framing or appraisal? Which checkpoint features most improve correction under different stakes?
How do somatic, social, institutional, and digital registers interact when they conflict? When does reducing a trace's weight reduce rumination without erasing necessary warning? What forms of archive governance best support correction while preserving privacy and legitimate institutional memory?
How do active archives change autobiographical memory over years rather than minutes? Which design features preserve a user's ability to surprise a predictive model? How does power alter whose render becomes official, and what appeal structures actually change outcomes?
What happens when people are taught event, trace, inference, render, and interpretation as separate audit categories? A useful research program would not ask whether STAR is true in the abstract. It would test where its distinctions sharpen explanation and where they collapse into existing concepts without added value.
