A checkpoint earns strength through a cluster of tests rather than a ceremonial stamp. The first is provenance: where did the trace come from, how was it produced, and what happened to it between creation and use? A screenshot with no source is different from a message preserved in the original thread. A sample with a documented chain is different from a tube found in an unlabeled drawer. Provenance does not guarantee truth, but without it the trace arrives already asking for more faith than it has earned.

The second is independent convergence. Do genuinely different routes point toward the same conclusion? Three people repeating one person's claim are not three sources. Two reports copied from the same database are not independent confirmation. Repetition can look like convergence while being the same evidence in several outfits.

The third is contestability. Can the claim be inspected, questioned, and met with contrary evidence? A checkpoint that cannot be challenged may still be enforced, but enforcement is not the same as verification.

The fourth is a route of appeal. Contestability matters only if correction can travel somewhere. A file that can be disputed but never amended is not meaningfully open. A platform decision with an appeal button that disappears into silence has the architecture of correction without the function.

The fifth is consequence match. Is the support strong enough for the weight the claim is being asked to carry? The proof needed to decide where to have lunch is not the proof needed to fire someone, alter medication, remove a child, imprison a defendant, or publish an accusation to millions of people.

These tests do not convert uncertainty into a neat score. They do something more useful. They show why checkpoint strength rises and falls, and why a trace can be adequate for one purpose but dangerously thin for another.
