Event
An occurrence or state of affairs that is not exhausted by any one person's experience of it. An event can remain partly unknown while still constraining what honest accounts may claim.
Checkpoint strength
The authority a trace deserves given provenance, independent convergence, contestability, route of appeal, and fit with the consequence it is asked to carry.
Co-renderer
A person, group, institution, tool, platform, or system that helps shape the render with us by affecting what is available, selected, weighted, verified, or permitted to matter.
False checkpoint
A manufactured or captured certainty functioning as settled orientation or identity despite inadequate support. A false checkpoint may be built from forged evidence, authentic evidence used outside its standing, repetition, consensus, or institutional power.
Social archive
Traces held by other people and groups: shared memories, reputations, stories, roles, expectations, and recognition. It can restore missing context or enforce a fixed identity.
Institutional archive
Messages, minutes, policies, diagnoses, contracts, case files, classifications, measurements, and official records. It can preserve accountability and can convert partial judgment into durable consequence.
One event, several worlds
In private, this process can seem intimate, almost harmless.
The loop in plain language
Before the vocabulary becomes more precise, here is the whole loop.
Persistence and re-entry
A thing does not need to last forever to belong to an archive.
Five registers, five characteristic errors
The internal register includes remembered scenes, images, phrases, emotional associations, learned concepts, and the private continuity by which a person recognizes a life as their own.
